A regular fitness program provides numerous physical and mental health benefits, including improved strength and muscle tone, better balance and agility, and increased energy levels. Exercise also helps people reach or maintain an ideal weight, reduce the risk of illness, and increase self-confidence. For many people, when they commit to a regular wellness program, the results are overwhelmingly obvious as they see improvement in numerous areas of their life. That’s what happened with Black Box VR member Alejandro, who VR Fitness Insider initially wrote about last year. It’s exciting to see that Black Box VR continues to help him live the best life he can live!
BBVR: Thank you, Alejandro, for talking with us today. We love to hear stories about people who use Black Box VR to level up their lives. Let’s start out by having you tell us a bit about yourself?
Alejandro: Sure thing! I turned 35 in early May 2021 and have a son named Maxwell who is a very funny boy. He’s almost two years old. My wife Katie and I are expecting another boy in June. I can’t wait to show them both Black Box VR. Katie can’t wait until her pregnancy is over and get back in the Box herself. For the last seven years, I’ve built my business as an agent and risk advisor for a local insurance company. This career, as well as my life, sure has had its ups and downs. When Max entered my world, I found my “Why.” I knew I wanted to be a great father, a great husband, and a great business owner. Then Black Box VR entered my life on November 1, 2019. Since then, I have 189 battles under my belt, I’ve gone through 2 leagues starting in Gold, and I’m almost done with Platinum League. When I started Black Box VR I was 204 pounds. I am now around 164, so I’ve lost 40 pounds. Black Box VR has helped me gain confidence, and I have become a better father, a better husband, and a better business owner. I love Black Box VR, you truly do Level Up.
BBVR: Congratulations on losing 40lbs and making positive changes to your life! That takes dedication, Alejandro. Now you’ve been a member with us for a long time. How did you find out about Black Box VR?
Alejandro: I was lucky enough to win a 3-month pass in a raffle during a golf scramble. I had no idea what Black Box VR was; I just got lucky, and it has become a massive part of my life ever since.
BBVR: What are your favorite features of the Black Box VR fitness experience?
Alejandro: I would have to say my favorite feature is the dynamic resistance machine and the fact that you don’t have to worry about how much weight you want to lift. The Black Box machine is personalized to you. Also, I love that you don’t have to create a workout plan before going into the gym. You just show up, play the game and get a fantastic workout in!
BBVR: How does Black Box VR compare with other workout programs you have done in the past?
Alejandro: This is the longest and most consistent I’ve gone to the gym in my entire life. I never get bored working out because of the technology and updates to the VR fitness game. It keeps me coming back in, and it’s the most effective strength and endurance workout you can get in 30-minutes.
BBVR: You were a part of the Spring Black Box VR Esport tournament this year. How did you do in the tournament, and what did you think?
Alejandro: It was a really fun experience, and I was honored to be a part of it. I lost in the first round but battled my way through the consolation bracket and won third place. That battle was a nail-biter because it came down to the last few minutes between me and Jason (Jojo). He was a great competitor. I can’t wait to see the future of Black Box VR and VR esports.
BBVR: Do you do any other physical activities to boost your fitness results?
Alejandro: On average, I run about 1 mile per day. I really enjoy running, golfing, hot yoga, mountain biking, and backpacking. Last Labor Day weekend, I went on a 3 day, 36-mile hike in the Sawtooths [part of the Rocky Mountain range in Idaho]. The conditioning and daily workouts from Black Box VR gave me an advantage while carrying the heavy pack and walking those long miles in that steep and rugged terrain.
BBVR: To transform your body the way you have, nutrition is an essential part of a fitness plan. What sort of eating habits do you incorporate into your everyday life?
Alejandro: When I first started my fitness journey with BBVR, I was intermittent fasting. I usually try to have a fist full of protein after my workout and maybe some eggs in the morning or a smoothie. Lunch is light, some chicken and rice or steak and sweet potatoes. Dinner is whatever the family is eating at home. Two of the biggest things I cut out were alcohol and soda. However, I’m still a sucker for an occasional Dr. Pepper or ice cream cone for a treat.
BBVR: We know you have lost 40lbs so far, changed some of your negative daily habits and have been consistent in your workouts. Have you had any other positive life-changing results since you started going to Black Box VR?
Alejandro: Where do I start? Haha! My whole life has improved since I’ve started out here, and that’s no joke. I’m in the best mental and physical shape of my life. People I haven’t seen in years say they don’t recognize me. My stress levels are down, and my average resting heart rate is 51 bpm. It’s just so much fun to step into the metaverse of Black Box VR and not think about anything else for 30 minutes and to step out knowing I had a fantastic workout.
BBVR: Do you have any Black Box VR Achievements that you are most proud of?
Alejandro: I would say the three recent ones are 5 million in total volume weight lifted. Of those 5 million, 1.5 million come from deadlifts and 1 million from chest press. It’s so amazing that you track that for your members and that we have access to that data.
BBVR: Tracking the workouts was a big goal of ours from the beginning. We knew our members would use that data to educate themselves about their fitness progress. All of that data is in the Black Box VR app. What are some of your favorite features of the app?
Alejandro: I love the battle logs that show your results, such as sets, reps, punches/slices, caloric burn, volume lifted, and their latest feature called “Work,” which essentially shows you how hard you worked during your workout. Love it!
BBVR: Do you have any advice for people that are on the fence about trying Black Box?
Alejandro: Just do it already. Just give it a try. Give yourself a few battles and patience to learn the game. Ask questions. The trainers are happy to coach you on tips and offer advice. There is mental skill behind the game, and when you can figure that out, the game gets more strategic. You can focus on throwing out the right champions and counterattack with the proper exercises. You play a game, get a real HIIT-style resistance workout all in 30-minutes. What more do you need?
BBVR: Thank you, Alejandro, for taking the time to share your fitness journey with us. We appreciate you and look forward to seeing your future workout battles.
Alejandro: I appreciate you guys too. Thanks again for having me.
