We’re constantly surprised by how powerful VR is for exercise!
This study by the Korean government simply added a VR headset and simple game to an indoor cycling program, and the results were very different compared to those that followed the exact same program without VR.
The Study:
- One group of obese, middle-aged women used VR and did a low-intensity indoor cycling program for eight weeks. They were encouraged to exercise three to five times per week for 50 minutes at a time.
- A second group did the same cycling program but without VR.
- A third group was the control group and they did nothing (like my kids when I ask them to do chores on the weekend).
BMI Change:
Lower is better.
- VR: -1.39
- Non-VR: -0.38
- Control: +0.04
Depressive Symptoms Rating:

- VR Start: 5.48
- VR End: 2.48
- Non-VR Start: 5.93
- Non-VR End: 4.17
- Control Start: 6.00
- Control End: 5.30
